The Wash & Go

blog post natural hair wash & go

Wash & Gos are a great way to show off that mane without the hassle of waiting until the next day to rock your fro (even though 3rd day hair is bae).

The keys to a great wash & go are: clean, conditioned hair, a hydrating leave-in, a lightweight sealant and a great styler/gel. Achieving a wash & go is really easy, but if you've been struggling with it check out these hacks that I use to get the most bomb wash & go:

1. Start with Clean, Conditioned Hair

This is an obvious step. Wash & Gos should always be done on hair that has been clean and conditioned. This preps the hair so that it is able to absorb the products properly and leaves the hair detangled and moisturized.

2. Rinse with Cold Water/ Aloe Vera Juice

Sealing the cuticle will impart shine and decrease frizz. Not only that but Aloe vera juice will provide added moisture and nutrients to the hair. After rinsing, wring the hair out to the best of your ability and section off.

3. Seal with Oil/Butter

After wringing the hair out, apply your oil or butter to seal. I've found that it's best for me to apply my sealant while my hair is still pretty damp. This decreases frizz, clumps the curls and locks the moisture into the hair.

4. Apply Moisturizer

Keeping the hair moisturized  is key when trying to achieve a great wash & go. Apply a lightweight product such as Hydrate Me Please Moisture Cream as an added layer of moisture before applying your styler.

5. Apply Styler

Lastly, apply your gel to the hair. Shingling is the best method to use in order to see the most definition, especially in the roots. This ensures that the entire hair shaft is coated and defined.

6. Air Dry

Many naturals opt to diffuse, but I've found that diffusing dries my hair out and leaves my hair frizzy. Air-drying is my preferred method since it cuts down on frizz and leaves me with a more defined end product.
